FOUNDERS DROP ’26 — LAUNCHING 1 OCTOBER
Privacy Policy
How The Fishing Collective collects, uses, and looks after your information.
Last updated: 14 August 2026. We follow the Privacy Act 2020.
This policy explains what we collect, why, and how you can ask us about it. It applies to thefishingcollective.nz and to email, checkout, and contact forms on this site.
Who holds your information
The Fishing Collective is the company holding your personal information. We are online only. For privacy requests email info@thefishingcollective.nz.
What we collect
When you order or create an account we typically collect your name, email, phone, shipping and billing address, order history, and notes you send us. Payment cards are handled by WooPayments. We don’t keep full card numbers on our own servers.
If you join the mailing list or a waitlist, we store your email and where you signed up (for example homepage or a product page). Contact forms store whatever you type in.
The site also logs technical data that browsers send as a matter of course: IP address, browser type, pages viewed, and cookies needed to run a cart and a logged-in session.
Why we collect it
We use personal information to take and fulfil orders, send shipping updates, handle returns, run your account, answer messages, improve the site, and meet tax and legal duties. If you’ve opted in, we also use your email for drops, stories, and the occasional update. We don’t sell your information.
Checkout information is collected because we need it to perform the contract. Marketing email is optional. You can unsubscribe from marketing without affecting an order that’s already in motion.
Who we share it with
We only share what’s needed to run the store:
- WooPayments / payment processors, to take payment
- Our website host and WordPress stack, to keep the site running
- Couriers, to deliver parcels
- Email tools, if we use one to send mail you asked for
- Professional advisers or authorities, if the law requires it
Some of those providers are outside New Zealand (for example payment processing). If information goes overseas, we take reasonable steps so it’s protected in line with the Privacy Act 2020.
If we ever sold or merged the project, your information could move with it so orders and accounts still work. We’d still expect the new operator to look after it properly.
Cookies
We use cookies and similar storage to keep you logged in, remember your cart, and keep checkout secure. Payment tools may set their own cookies. You can block cookies in your browser; the shop may not work properly if you do.
We don’t run a wall of advertising trackers. If we add a simple analytics tool later, it will be to understand which pages are used — not to follow you around the rest of the internet.
How long we keep it
Order records are kept for as long as we need them for accounting, tax, and genuine disputes — usually at least seven years for transaction records. Mailing-list addresses stay until you unsubscribe or we delete the list. You can ask us to erase other information we no longer need.
Security
We use HTTPS on the live site and industry-standard payment processing. No method of sending data over the internet is perfect. If we become aware of a privacy breach that meets the Privacy Act threshold, we’ll notify the Privacy Commissioner and affected people as required.
Your rights
You can ask us for access to the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it’s wrong. You can also ask us to stop using your email for marketing. Email info@thefishingcollective.nz. We may need to confirm it’s you before we change or release anything.
If you’re not satisfied with how we handle a privacy request, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
Changes
We’ll post updates on this page. If a change is material, we’ll say so here (and by email if we reasonably can).
